Solar Construction Estimator

SUMMARY: The job of a solar construction estimator is to provide cost estimates for the construction of commercial solar systems. You will use your own experience and construction plans to analyze the spending statistic and project budget. The estimation will include all the necessary materials required in the construction process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with Design team and Solar Analysts to develop bid packages for proposals and constructions.
  • Estimate the amount and cost of material required to deliver the contracted specifications.
  • To work with Project Managers and sales team and help predict the duration of the project and the cost involved.
  • To establish the estimated completion rate and progress, this will include the necessary reimbursements for bad weather conditions and other unpredictable events.
  • To calculate a final figure of the cost that will have to be incurred.
  • Work with Project Managers to develop scopes of work for sub-contractors.
  • To work on CAD applications for determining the final project statistics.
  • To provide with suitable plans when budget is a prior set constraint.
  • To read and understand blueprints and discuss them with the site manager and the client.

Skills and Specifications

  • Must have strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Must have a basic understanding of construction and the functions of an EPC Contractor.
  • Should have a good eye for details.
  • Should be comfortable with understanding blueprints.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal qualities.
  • Must be able to work as a team and foster confidence in all.
  • Should be comfortable in basic computer applications and CAD applications.
  • Should be comfortable in handling large files with confidential data.
  • Must have the knowledge of basic construction software’s, i.e. Timerline, MS Projects.
  • Must be able to work within a team as well as independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Completes CAD drawings as assigned.
•    Interfaces with outside contractors to review and/or develop renovation and new construction plans; coordinates communication with and work of outside contractors.
•    Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of city and state building codes and OSHA requirements.
•    Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of photovoltaic, electrical, and roofing skills.
•    Implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraints.
•    Prepares accurate and timely reports as required.

•    Performs other duties as assigned by manager.



QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Four to six years related experience or equivalent
•    BA Degree in Electrical Engineering Preferred
•    Knowledge of photovoltaic, electrical, and roofing
•    Proficient on AutoCAD
•    Knowledge of city and state building codes, and OSHA requirements.
•    Commitment to excellence and high standards
•    Basic competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks
•    Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
•    Ability to manage priorities and workflow
•    Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
•    Proficient on Microsoft Word and Excel, Business Works helpful
•    Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
•    Strong interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
•    Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
•    Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
•    Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
•    Ability to perform the physical labor necessary
•    Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
